2006-2007 APA Action Plan

 

I.          Organizational Affairs

A.                 Membership Involvement

·        Staff visit pharmacies and/or legislators with local APA leadership

·        Evaluate ways to increase involvement of young practitioners

-     One-day social events in areas or districts

·        Encourage social participation of students at convention and other events

-     two-day weekend social function

·        Increase peer contact

-     first-time attendee recognition at convention

-     notify district presidents of first-time attendees from their districts

-     notify past presidents of first-time attendees who are at the Past Presidents’ Reception.

·        Host social/CE opportunities for female pharmacists only

B.                 Membership and Volunteer Recruitment

·        Work with chain pharmacies on increasing their financial support of APA

·        Pursue a closer working relationship with chain pharmacies

·        Recruit new members and retain current members

·        Promote volunteer opportunities (i.e. committee membership)

·        Pursue CE incentives for APA members with UAMS CE programs

·        Establish working relationship with new faculty of Harding University School of Pharmacy

C.                 APA District Presidents

·        Coordinate and/or be involved in district forum meetings

-     Pharmacy swap group

-     Communication

-     Continuing education

-     Political activity

-     Fundraising:  AP-PAC, Foundation, etc.

·        District presidents develop phone trees by town

·        President elect serve as liaison between APA and district presidents

·        District presidents contact and recruit nonmembers in their districts

 

II.        Public Affairs Committee

A.                 Public Relations

·        Continue building relationship with media

·        Media appearances about Medicare Part D

·        Train members of Public Affairs Committee as media contacts

·        Draft and distribute press releases related to pharmacy issues upon request of Board members

B.                 Communication with Membership

·        Educate membership about APA website at District Meetings

·        Promote APA accomplishments on website, journal, blast emails, and blast faxes

·        Educate members about National Provider Identifier Numbers

 

III.       Third Party Issues Committee

A.        Place emphasis on medication therapy management (MTM) for Medicare

Part D

B.         Support reorganizing of a drug utilization review committee for State Employees/Public School Employees prescription benefit program

C.                 Redesign Medicaid’s cost of dispensing survey

D.                 Continue working with Medicaid and State Employees on adequate reimbursement and efficient formulary management

E.                  Maintain adequate fee reimbursement and monitor the restructure of AWP

 

IV.       Professional Affairs and Ethical Practices Committee

A.        Improve and facilitate re-establishing the pharmacist/employer/patient relationship

B.         Market and promote SureScripts

C.        Facilitate pharmacists’ access to electronic medical records

D.        Promote Pharmacy Quality Commitment (PQC)

E.         Investigate and resolve unfair usage of 340B drugs

F.                  Investigate and resolve dental/physician dispensing

 

V.        APA Foundation

A.        Work with College dean to fundraise for College

B.         Explore a project for Foundation fundraising – research planned giving (i.e. endowments)

C.        Restructure Foundation Board of Directors and Bylaws
