New DEA Regulation Makes Obtaining
90-Day Supply of C-II Medications Easier
A new regulation created by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will allow patients to utilize sequential prescription to receive up to a 90 day supply of a C-II medication. Specifically, the rule will “allow practitioners to provide individual patients with multiple prescriptions, to be filled sequentially, for the same schedule II controlled substance, with such multiple prescriptions having the combined effect of allowing a patient to receive over time up to a 90-day supply of that controlled substance.”
This new rule becomes effective on December 19, 2007.
Pharmacist/Pharmacy License Renewal Time
It is time, once again, to renew your pharmacist license with the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy. In addition, if you are a pharmacy owner, you must also renew your pharmacy license.
Don’t forget that you will need thirty (30) hours of continuing education to renew your pharmacist license. A minimum of twelve (12) of these hours must be Drug Therapy or Patient Management hours. The Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy has a new online system for updating your personal information, inputting your CE, and renewing your license. This is the quickest and easiest way to renew your licenses. To use this service, visit www.arkansas.gov/asbp .
Remember, if you or someone you know, such as a local pharmaceutical representative, is presenting a CE, you can get in-state CE credit from the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy by completing a one page accreditation form.
