Medicare Part D

Common Questions Received and Answers Given by

APA This Week

Can I distribute enrollment forms for Community CareRx?

Yes, pharmacists can distribute enrollment forms for Medicare Part D drug plans and can help seniors complete a form.  However, pharmacists cannot coerce seniors towards a particular plan and cannot keep and mail the enrollment form for the senior.

How do I handle dual eligibles and the fact that they are automatically assigned a plan by CMS?

Although these patients will be auto-enrolled, you can enroll them into a different plan beginning November 15th. The new enrollment will supersede the auto-enrollment, with no additional paperwork required.

How will extension-of-benefits work?

From what APA understands, Medicare Part D will not have restrictions on the number of prescriptions a senior can receive.

Do Medicare beneficiaries who are not 65 years of age qualify for Medicare Part D?

If an individual qualifies for Medicare Part A or B, he/she automatically qualifies for Medicare Part D.

If I have requested a CCRx enroller to come to my pharmacy, how do I confirm that the enroller is coming?

CCRx mailed confirmation letters last week.  If you did not receive a letter, please call the CCRx State Director Tim North at 1-800-458-7112.
