Update on Swine Flu
Posted September 28, 2009
This is an official CDC Health Update
Updated Pediatric Antiviral Dosing Syringe and Compounding Information for 2009 H1N1 and Seasonal Flu
As the 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus continues to spread across the United States, the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) and many partners are preparing for the most ambitious vaccination effort in the state’s history. We are planning to provide protection from both the seasonal flu and the new 2009 H1N1 flu this fall and we need your help!
ADH is recruiting medical professionals who are authorized to administer vaccine in Arkansas (including hospitals, clinics, pharmacists and community vaccinators). Please follow the link below to provide background information and get instructions for an on-line survey to provide information about pre-registering interest in receiving H1N1 vaccine and supplies (needles, syringes, sharps containers, alcohol swabs) for staff and/or patients. Pre-registration will also allow providers to receive updates about the vaccination campaign at no cost and with no obligation.

Message from CMS Regarding Swine Flu
The federal and state governments continue to monitor the status of swine flu throughout the U.S and Arkansas. To date, there have been no cases reported in Arkansas. Two currently available antivirals, Tamiflu and Relenza both seem to be effective against the H1N1 strain of the swine flu. Please do not make an attempt to order excessive quantities of these products from your wholesaler, as this may precipitate a shortage. APA has learned that wholesalers are currently limiting purchases to 3 units per week with a max of 12 units per month. Please take note, the National Strategic Drug Stockpile has over 40 million doses of antivirals in storage in the event of a nationwide outbreak. APA will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
